Viñas del Vero applies an ecological fertiliser with coffee grounds in the vineyard.
Circularity and care for the biodiversity of the vineyard soil converge in "Fertcafe", the research project in which Viñas del Vero participates and which proposes to give a second life to coffee grounds from vending machines. This circular economy initiative relies on the experience of EBOCA, a company dedicated to the production and distribution of roasted coffee, and Defeder, a company focused on the research, development, exploitation and commercialisation of ecological fertiliser products. The vineyard of our D.O. Somontano winery will be the setting for this research that promotes the valorisation of coffee grounds generated in vending machines, present in places as frequented as educational centres, hospitals and offices. In addition to this advance, the development of "Fertcafé" will contribute to improving the quality and care of soil biodiversity, the profitability and sustainability of farms, as well as reducing the carbon footprint achieved by reusing this waste. With this initiative, in line with the new requirements of the Community Agricultural Policy (CAP), Viñas del Vero takes a new step in its commitment to a use of the vineyard soil that favours its biodiversity. Caring for the species that inhabit this underground ecosystem is essential to ensure the good development of the vine, allowing it to better cope with possible diseases and the stress produced by the vineyard.
