Viñas del Vero’s vineyards and grape varieties
15 grape varieties
The diversity of the different types of soil, microclimates and altitudes means that Viñas del Vero works with a broad range of different red grapes such as Tempranillo, Garnacha, Pinot Noir, Moristel, Parraleta, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah.
It also grows white grape varieties including Chardonnay, Macabeo, Gewürztraminer, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Garnacha Blanca and Alcañón.
As well as the indigenous Spanish varieties, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Chardonnay are also considered to be traditional, having been grown in Somontano for the last 125 years.
Discover the vineyards
Viñas del Vero owns 515 hectares of its own vineyards and a further 500 hectares that are run by local partners.
All are characterized by great diversity as regards soil, altitude and climatic conditions. The soil is generally poor, stony and rich in lime, with a few exceptions where it lies over tertiary era gypsum, quaternary terraces carved by the river Vero or altered sandy rock.
Most of the vineyards are south-facing and are on steep slopes. As to climate, summers are short and dry, whilst winters are long and cold, with rain spread across the year, albeit more abundant in spring and autumn.
With these unique vineyards and the prevailing climate and soil conditions, Viñas del Vero offers wines that have a unique character. See where the vineyards are, on this map
